FINE ART IN PERFORMANCE

As a self-described, “cultural performance artist,” Rachel Kice, aka: RKice, is best known for joining popular music artists on stage, where she starts and completes an acrylic on canvas painting.

RKice joins the rhythms of concerts and cultural gatherings, applying paint to spinning canvases, adding line, shape, form, texture and color to reflect the physical environment and mood of the event in which she is participating.

Although the fruits of Rachel’s performances yield a product—a finished painting, her literal act of painting liberates her from the objects she creates and has offered her the freedom to “exhibit” everywhere from concert stages to red carpets to museum galleries..

FINE ART IN STUDIO

In studio, RKice typically works alone and rarely listens to music while painting, though she often writes songs, alternating between the piano and the canvas. She works from her more personal experiences- often painting scenarios from her life, focusing on the shapes of the experiences and working to coordinate her thoughts and brush strokes into agreement. Additionally, RKice paints for a variety of her commercial and cultural work, including her signature, "May I Paint Your Pants?™" project.

MORE ABOUT RACHEL KICE:

Rachel Kice- the painter- elevates the color and excitement of any performance as her evening gown flows with the rhythmic moves of her body, her palette becomes an extension of her soul, and her passionate energy takes the audience on a wild ride.

Rachel Kice - the performer - tantalizes the audience with her magnetic presence and interludes of high-heeled yoga.

Many of Rachel's paintings have originated on, or near, the stage as part of performances by Nashville's MuzikMafia. "MuzikMafia" is a collection of musicians and songwriters whose free-form musical extravaganzas have taken them from an underground craze to a mainstream music phenomenon. Several of its members have captured national attention: Gretchen Wilson, Big & Rich, Jon Nicholson, and James Otto have all signed major label contracts, and Rachel has become hot property along with them.

No matter the venue or circumstance, Rachel engages and connects with her audience. Performing as a part of the recently completed American Revolution stadium tour, which featured her MuzikMafia counterparts, Rachel painted on stage before thousands of eager concertgoers. Her reach and appeal has been fortified before millions in televised performances, such as the Radio Music Awards, and in her new role, playing herself on CMT’s adventurous original reality series, MuzikMafia TV. In June 2006, CNN will feature the work of RKice.

Rachel’s paintings are found in numerous private collections worldwide, including those of Bob Dole, Tim McGraw, Kid Rock, King Albert of Monaco and Willie Nelson.

Born and raised in Wichita, Kansas, one of three artist daughters of a businessman and a graphic designer, Rachel indulged her interests in art, performance, music, and writing at an early age. She worked with the Wichita Children's Theater and Dance Center, studied opera, and earned a vocal scholarship to Berklee College of Music. The eclectic style of Berklee was new, but Rachel, much like her paints, blended to perfection with the environment's diversity.

After returning to Kansas from Berklee, Rachel gave birth to her daughter (Witne), hosted a television show, and explored the stage as actress/writer for theater groups. She moved to Nashville in 2001 and had an epiphany while painting as her friend (Stefan Markey) played piano. This led to a friend's (musician, Rob Giles) rehearsal, then moved to the stage with the "Mafia" and with another dynamic group (led by Muzik Mafia Member, Max on Sax Abrams), Circvs Maximvs.

Though many of the fine and performing arts are part of her life, Kice sites "Painting has always been a kind of release, an action I can take when I otherwise wouldn't know what to do in my life," says Rachel. "I am painting more than ever now because I love music and the spirit and atmosphere of the group I'm with."

A performance artist in her own right, Rachel is working to combine live performance and painting in other ways. In 2005, she signed a "painter's record deal" with Warner/RAYBAW, this instigating the sale of her works commercially. Kice performs music with co-writer Michael Tarolly in their project "King vs. Queeen.
